DIGICAM LOVE
Less for show and more for inconspicuously and conveniently capturing the small and tender moments in my life....
In 2018, my partner at the time and I frequently visited the thrift store to hunt for cheap cameras, 35mm film cameras being what we eyed the most. Until one day, my once partner pulled out a small Sony Cybershot. It's plastic packaging held the silver rectangular point-and-shoot, a battery charger, and one Memory Stick Pro Duo...all for $10!
We'd later learn that such a camera with all the fixings was a steal. And we would come to add this to our checklist of things to find on our thrift store and flea market trips.
Sure. There has been great advancements in imaging technology since the small point-and-shoot digital cameras were the "must-have" accessory in the early 2000s. They will probably never hold up in megapixels, clarity, or tones as their current DSLR and mirrorless rangefinder big brothers. And lets face it, the frames can get noisy as hell in low light.
But what shooting with a digicam allowed me to do is just fall back in love with the moment. With a camera like this--simple, no embellishments--you think less about how to take the photo and focus more on whats happening. The moment becomes your subject.
In time, I found out that I was not the only one rekindling my love for life as it is through shooting with a digicam. Praised photographers and artists, Bao Ngo, Sofia Lee, and Froyo Tam, run @digicam.love an Instagram account that highlights the magic that can be made with the "forgotten digital point and shoots."
The following are a collection of photos I've taken in the last two years with digicams...
